  • Dr. Roger A. Winkle, M.D. FACC, FHRS.

Affiliation: Director of Electrophysiology at Sequoia Hospital, Redwood City California and founder of Silicon Valley Cardiology, E. Palo Alto California. He was trained as an electrical engineer. His early interests were in the clinical pharmacology of antiarrhythmic drugs and ambulatory ECG monitoring. He subsequently helped refine the implantable defibrillator to make it a clinically viable option by developing the first tiered-therapy defibrillator and he introduced defibrillation threshold testing, the transvenous defibrillation lead and the biphasic defibrillation waveform. He has founded several companies in Silicon Valley. Current research interests include improving the safety and efficacy of atrial fibrillation ablation and anticoagulation in the peri-ablation period.
